Arconas Website Now AODA WCAG 2.0 Level AA Compliant

We are pleased to announce that in accordance with new regulations put forth by the Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), the Arconas website is now WCAG 2.0 level AA compliant.

New regulations came into place on January 1st, 2021, requiring all companies with 50 or more employees to make their corporate website AODA Level AA compliant. AODA allows people with disabilities to effectively use the web without barriers and engage with their online communities. Adjustments made include slight color changes on buttons so they are higher contrast and therefore easier to see, as well as changes to the main menu so that it can be read by screen readers used by the visually impaired. We have also added a page that outlines our accessibility policy and procedures here: https://www.arconas.com/accessibility-policy/

Why is this important?

1. Our website is now more accessible for individuals with disabilities.

5.4% of all Canadians have a visual disability and 4.8% of all Canadians have a hearing impairment. That’s ~10% of the Canadian population. By updating our website we are making it more accessible and barrier-free for visitors.

2. These updates reinforce our position as an equal opportunity employer.

Equal opportunities in our workplace begin when individuals apply to our company. Making our website, including the ‘career page,’ accessible means allowing people using screen readers to hear and interact with our website content more easily.

The move toward accessibility online is about creating a better Internet for everyone. In Ontario, the act applies to public sector organizations and private sector organizations with more than 50 employees. The level of accessibility required has been WCAG 2.0 level A since 2014, but as of January 1st, 2021 it became WCAG 2.0 level AA.
