Green Furniture Concept and Bernù Aero Installed at Fort Lauderdale Airport

Arconas recently installed a fleet of black upholstered Bernù Aero seats, as well as custom Green Furniture Concept Nova C seating as part of Fort Lauderdale Airport’s new five-gate international Southwest Airlines concourse at Terminal 1.

Featured in the terminal’s atrium is a custom installation of rich, dark brown Nova C back and Nova C double benches that fit perfectly along the curves of the space.

Elsewhere, black upholstered bernù aero seating is installed in Concourse A, which invokes an airy, serene atmosphere with teal terrazzo flooring, floor-to-ceiling windows, and public art. The design and architecture gives a sense of a coastal sky and calming ocean waves.

The gate areas feature expansive ceilings, with the teal colour carried over into tastefully modern patterned carpet. The Bernù Aero seats here include inPower™ Flex modules at every seat with duplex AC receptacles and two USB ports so that passengers can easily charge their personal electronics. ADA/accessible seats with arms removed on the end, and embroidered wheel chair logos can be seen throughout the terminal. Many seats also include all aluminum arms with integrated cup holders. These amenities were all thoughtfully included as part of the airport’s goal to diversify and modernize its facilities.

Wherever an inPower™ Flex module is placed, a cable management device has also been installed on the seat to contain all cords. The modules are ‘daisy-chained’ together so that power to all of the seats only needs to come from one outlet source, reducing the need for costly electrical work. During the design process, Arconas’ design team decides the placement of seats alongside the placement of power outlets so that plugging in is easy, convenient, and safe. InPower™ Flex is UL-rated and comes with numerous built-in safety features that limit currents, is GFI protected against short circuits and shields passenger’s electronic equipment from surges.

Other updates include a renovated post-security area, new shops and restaurants, a pet relief area with artificial turf, and a connector hallway between all three concourses (A,B, and C). Corgan was the prime firm, architect of record, and the lead designer on the Concourse A expansion.

The new Southwest concourse and Terminal 1 renovation are part of a massive makeover set for completion in 2020. FLL has expanded in recent years to shift from an airport focused on domestic flights and low-cost airlines to an international hub.
